...just not updating this blog very much recently! What with holidays, a new job, and my dissertation deadline looming I've had a lot of other stuff to think about. Hopefully this situation will improve over the next few weeks, and once again I will share the benefits of my wisdom with the Internet.
Anyway, to those of you still looking at this blog- thanks, and I promise more updates will follow!
I'm going to Chicago tomorrow to invigilate some exams for work, which means I get an all expenses paid trip in return for 3 mornings of sitting in a room watching people write. I'm looking forward to just hanging out, seeing some cool architecture and going to some world class art galleries and museums. Oh, and eating steak, which is apparently a great favourite in that part of the world.
Pretty soon after that I'm off to Berlin with Jude, for what promises to be a lovely city break. Everyone I know who has benen there has good things to say about Berlin, and there should be a huge range of stuff for us to do, not least drinking beer and eating bratwurst. Sehr gut!
20six have overhauled their format and content management system, making it much easier to do just about anything with one's blog. The format is now a lot cleaner, and you are able to drop code snippets in pretty much where you want, like the Amnesty Irrepressible Info button you can see to the left. I was thinking of changing to Blogger, but I think I'll stick with 20six now!
I've actually been getting spam trackbacks on this blog, which means that someone has set up a number of websites elsewhere, referencing individual blog entries on my site, and somehow feeding me links. As with other spam, this is futile on the part of the spammer, if pretty damn annoying for me.
So ATP totally rocked! TV on the Radio were my favourite band, with honourable mentions going to Blood Brothers, Services, the Drones and Black Mountain. Devendra Banhart sounded like the Eagles. Tom took photos, to be found here, and Nick has presented awards here.
Unfortunately, what with all the partying I have one of those week-long hangovers, which sucks, but there you go.
...this has been floating around on the Internet for a while, but is so laugh-out-loud funny that it deserves me blogging it! Colbert is a regular on the Daily Show, and gives the assembled press corps and the president the kind of satirical roasting that must have taken a great deal of courage, and would make the likes of Hunter S Thompson and Steve Bell proud.
A couple of the funniest lines: "Fox News gives you both sides of every story: the president's side, and the vice president's side.", and ""Oh, they're just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic." First of all, that is a terrible metaphor. This administration is not sinking. This administration is soaring. If anything, they are rearranging the deck chairs on the Hindenburg!"
